  1. 'Mean survival after transfer' is the average life span of animals in each group that were alive at the time the cohort was switched from control fed (CF) to bacterial deprivation (BD). 'Mean control fed survival after transfer' is the average life span of control fed animals that were alive at the time the corresponding cohort was switched to BD. Survival data are shown as mean ± standard error. P-values were calculated by the Wilcoxon Rank-Sum test using the MATLAB 'ranksum' function.
