Metabolomic insights into system-wide coordination of vertebrate metamorphosis

^aTotal extracts were prepared by complete deproteinization of serum samples and were chromatographed on a reversed-phase (RP) column to select for nonpolar metabolites. Aqueous extracts were prepared by liquid-liquid-extraction of deproteinized serum extracts and were chromatographed on a hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) column to select for polar metabolites. After statistical analysis, metabolites with significant abundance changes were searched against MassTRIX database to obtain putative IDs. Subsequently, the IDs of selected metabolites were validated by running standards.
