Conservation in Sry coding sequences is restricted to the HMG-box. a and b depict the probability of conservation of individual bases within the Sry ORF (defined in Table 1), as measured by RPhast, based on a multiple alignment by MUSCLE of the Sry coding regions from 17 species. The reference sequence for a is from human, while the reference sequence for b comes from mouse. In both panels, regions of high conservation correspond to known locations of human and mouse HMG boxes
