  1. Triplicate sections similar to and including those shown in Fig. 4 from littermates of the indicated ages were analyzed for the DV depth of the cortex (DV ctx mm) and the DV depth of the entire brain (DV brain mm) and the difference (diff) was used as the DV depth of the septum and ventral region. The average depth of each region was calculated and the ratio of the depths of -/- to +/+ brains was determined. A 15–20% increase in the depth of both the cortex and septum was seen. No standard deviation was calculated because the values are derived from ratios which complicate use of a T-test, but a consistent 15–20% increase in DV depth was seen in multiple pairs of brains.
