Phosphorylated Cofilin localizes to the cochlear sensory epithelium and is decreased in hypothyroid conditions. Representative cross-sections through the organ of Corti at the indicated time points. P-Cofilin is indicated by immunofluorescence in 12 μm projections. Immunofluorescence is present in the nuclei of cells in the greater epithelial ridge (GER) and outer hair cells (OHCs, white dashed lines), as well as in the nuclei and cytoplasm of pillar cells (PCs, pink dotted lines) and cells of the lesser epithelial ridge (LER). P-Cofilin is decreased in OHCs and PCs of hypothyroid cochleae relative to control. Scale bar, 20 μm, applies to all images.
