Thyroid differentiation in E16.5 PM/PM embryos. Transversal sections of thyroid gland and trachea of wild type (A-E) and PM/PM (F-J) E16.5 embryos were stained with anti-Nkx2-1(A, B, F and G), anti Pax8 C and H), anti Tg (D and I) and anti-NIS (E and J)antibodies. The size of the PM/PM thyroid appears reduced in comparison with the wild type thyroid but the expression of thyroid specific genes is not affected in the mutant gland. Panels A and F show that the immunostaining for Nkx2-1 is detected in the nuclei of the cells in both wild type and mutant thyroid.
