Wild-type (A, C) and cpnA- (B, D) cells were allowed to develop in starvation buffer containing EGTA for 48 hours. Fruiting bodies were removed from filters, placed on glass bottom dishes, and imaged with a Nikon microscope at 1000× magnification (scale bar = 20 μm).
